UTAH MEDICAREMADE EASY
What you pay, who you pay it to, and why the amounts change each January.
Medicare resets its premiums and deductibles every January, so we do not post dollar amounts here that would go stale. Call and we will give you this year’s exact figures. Below is the shape of it — what you pay and to whom.
| What | Who pays it | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Part A premium | Usually $0 | No premium if you or a spouse paid Medicare taxes 10+ years |
| Part A deductible | You | Charged per hospital benefit period, not per year — a second stay can mean paying it again |
| Part B premium | You, monthly | Set by Medicare each year; higher incomes pay more |
| Part B share of costs | You, 20% | Original Medicare has no yearly out-of-pocket maximum |
| Advantage plan premium | Often $0 | You still pay your Part B premium; copays as you go |
| Medigap premium | You, monthly | Depends on the plan letter, your age and your ZIP code |
| Part D | You, monthly | Premium plus copays; there is now a yearly cap on what you pay out of pocket for covered drugs |
Our help is free either way. We are paid by the insurance company you choose, and premiums are set by the carrier — a plan costs the same whether you enroll through us or on your own.
Call and ask one question or twenty — any month of the year, not just during enrollment season. There is never a charge, and we won’t put you on a list.
